Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir), The Al Mahdi School in Haiti, shared the same building as the Al Mahdi Islamic Centre, which was severely damaged by the great earthquake of 12 January 2010. The destruction was so great, that the entire building had to be demolished, taking away the school.

To ensure that school continued for the benefit of the children and youth of the Al Mahdi School, Br. Shu’ayb, the school’s Principal made a commitment to carry on holding classes, despite the chaos after the quake. However, holding school outdoors had its limitations due to the daily rains and the heat from the sun. To resolve this problem, Br. Shu’ayb decided to have a temporary facility constructed which was made of wood and covered with sheet metal to protect the staff and students from the rain and the sun’s heat.

The World Federation of Khoja Shia made a commitment to fund the $2,500 USD needed to complete the construction of this interim school. By the Grace of the Almighty, the Al Mahdi School is up and running in its newly constructed shelter, where the teachers can teach in a more suitable environment and the children can learn in peace and comfort.
